Can I apply directly without a private courier?
Yes. You can apply directly and pay the applicable government fees without a private service fee. Visit the U.S. Department of State.
What does the government charge?
An adult passport book application costs $130, plus $60 for expedited service. In-person applications also have a $35 acceptance fee. Courier shipping is itemized in the estimate. Optional State Department return delivery is separate. See official passport fees.
Who controls passport issuance and timing?
The U.S. Department of State determines eligibility, processing and issuance. Courier service is subject to availability. A service tier does not guarantee a passport by your travel date. Read the State Department’s courier guidance.
